When the Buffalo Bills announced their plans to play eight games in Toronto, many longtime fans worried the beginning to the end was underway for their hometown franchise. I guess, we all just assumed the Canadians would welcome a real football team. Who knew they didn't want the Bills or the NFL?

If Canadian Senator Larry Campbell has his way, the Bills won't even step foot in his great land. Campbell drafted a bill that would effectively ban the NFL from playing regular season games in Canada.

The actual language is "no person owning or operating a football team within a foreign league shall require or permit that team to play football in Canada" and "no person shall play football within Canada as a player on a football team within a foreign league."

Why would Campbell want to ban the NFL from his country? Well, he wants you to remember a few things: Canadian football has existed longer than American football, the Grey Cup has symbolized Canadian "football supremacy", and the CFL "contributes to the bonds of nationhood across Canada."

Additionally, Campbell says the Toronto Argonauts would be unable to compete against the Bills for fans in the region, which would then destroy the Canadian game. Campbell and his like-minded Canadians will fight the americanization one of the last remaining Canadian institutions.

In other Campbell news, his implementation of the Downtown Eastside skid row doesn't sit well with some Canadians.

Could an NFL quarterback enter training camp weighing as much as his offensive linemen?

According to Don Banks of Sports Illustrated, there are "rumors" that Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell's weight has fluctuated to nearly 300 pounds since the end of last season. Russell was listed at 255 pounds last season.

Some NFL insiders have denied the report, saying Russell is a mere twenty pounds overweight, weighing in at 275 pounds. The facts are uncertain since no players have actually seen Russell.

Worshipers of the NFL Draft and its annual combine will recall Russell's disappointing weigh in 2007. Russell shocked observers with his "flabby" 263 pound weight in. Weight has been an issue for the first overall pick since his college days at LSU.

Unfortunately for Jared Lorenzen, Russell has shown the ability to lose weight quickly Most likely, Lorenzen (listed at 285 after peaking at 322) will enter the 2008 NFL season as the league's heaviest quarterback.

Former Redskin wide receiver Brandon Lloyd signed with a new team and started a quarterback controversy in the same day. Lloyd agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears on Friday. Later, in a conference call, he made his "mistake."

"Rex Grossman is the starter," he said.

Previously, the Bears coaching staff said that there would be an open competition between Grossman and Kyle Orton to start next season. Apparently, Lloyd jumped the gun on the matter. To be sure, the media asked Lloyd who told him that Grossman would be the starter.

The receiver stumbled, saying, "That's what I'm unassuming. That's what..."

Lloyd trailed off. I can just imagine the management sitting there, telling him what to say. "Orton and Grossman signed one-year deals. I figured Grossman was the starter. Open competition is what I'm being told right now," Lloyd said.

Immediately after Lloyd relinquished the phone, Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner cleared up the matter. He said, "Brandon said that he assumed it would be Rex. I just wanted to clarify that before we got going. You guys know the situation. It's an open competition. Both guys have been told that, and when I talked to Brandon about the quarterback situation, I talked about both guys -- about Rex Grossman and Kyle. We've got two guys who can get the ball to all of our receivers."
